The West Bengal leader had announced to quit politics in July after he was dropped from PM Modi's Cabinet in the last reshuffle.
He was persuaded by the BJP leadership against resigning as a Lok Sabha member, but the singer-turned-politician had then insisted that he would no longer be part of active politics.

Supriyo today joined Mamata Banerjee's party in the presence of TMC leaders Abhishek Banerjee and Derek O' Brien.
"Today, in the presence of national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee and RS MP Derek O'Brien, former Union minister and sitting MP Babul Supriyo joined the Trinamool family," the Trinamool Congress said in a tweet.
"I'm very proud that I am changing my decision. I am coming back for a great opportunity to serve Bengal. I am very excited. I will meet Didi (CM Mamata Banerjee) on Monday. I am overwhelmed by the warm welcome," Supriyo said after joining the TMC.
"I meant it from my heart when I said I'll leave politics. However, I felt there was a huge opportunity that was entrusted upon me (on joining TMC). All my friends said my decision to leave politics was wrong and emotional." he added.
Supriyo also hinted that he will quit as Asansol MP but will keep working for the constituency.
"Didi and Abhishek have given me a great opportunity. As I have joined TMC, there is no point in holding on to my seat in Asansol. I've come into politics because of Asansol. I will do for that constituency as much as possible," he said.
TMC leader Kunal Ghosh said "Many BJP leaders are in communication with our leadership. They are not satisfied with the BJP. One (Babul Supriyo) joined today, another wants to join tomorrow. This process will go on. Wait and watch."

Babul Supriyo had joined the BJP in 2014, ahead of the Lok Sabha elections and got elected from West Bengal's Asansol constituency. He won again from Asansol in 2019.
After being dropped from the Union Cabinet, Supriyo had then written a post on his official Facebook page, "Goodbye. I'm not going to any political party. TMC, Congress, CPM nobody has called me, I'm not going anywhere... One need not be in politics to do social work."
However, he had later edited his post to remove the part about "not going anywhere."
